Thomas Roberts and David McNatt are the latest franchisees to join the JARS family. JARS by Fabio Viviani is taking the franchise world by storm with locations coming to Chicago, Southern California, Texas and now the San Francisco Bay Area. Fransmart recently sat down with Thomas and David to learn more about what attracted them to JARS and their plans for expansion in the San Francisco Bay area.
Q. What made you decide to invest in JARS?
A. We were looking for a concept that would bring joy to people’s lives. Fabio and his team have a proven track record in hospitality, and that was important to us. Whether guests are looking for a delicious, fancy treat after dinner, or are celebrating a big occasion or milestone, JARS is there to deliver good vibes and a smile!
The innovations JARS has created within the fast casual dessert industry was also a draw for us. This is a family business for us, so we were looking for a business our kids could get their hands in and help out and be proud to tell their friends at school all about it.
Q. What was your professional background before JARS?
A. We both have several decades’ long careers in financial services and investment management. Much of that time has involved building and leading highly engaged teams and making raving fans out of our customers. We felt there were some natural synergies between our corporate experiences and owning and running JARS.
Q. What made you want to start a new career in franchising?
A. We wanted to focus on a people-centric business. After a few years of endless Zoom calls we wanted to look people in the eye, hear their stories and laugh together in person. Being able to help our teams, customers and communities smile and bring them joy was a priority. JARS had all the ingredients we were looking for — joyful, passionate and an innovative process for success.
Q. What areas of the San Francisco Bay area are you targeting for JARS locations?
A. We are looking at the Oakland, Berkeley and Walnut Creek communities to bring our first JARS locations to life. We are also looking forward to serving the San Francisco and San Mateo County communities as we expand to future locations.
Q. What’s your favorite flavor of JARS?
A. Not Dos but Tres Leches and Stupid Awesome Peanut Butter Mud pie
