Dr. Arleen Lamba, GLO30 Founder, Interview Featured in Bizwomen.
Bizwomen (May 2, 2024)- The business of beauty can be expensive and elusive. As a physician, Dr. Arleen Lamba sought a scientific solution to her skin care problems. Once she found one, she set up shop then made it possible for other health professionals to follow.
My skincare journey began in my early 20s when I graduated college and began developing major skin issues. After having clear skin for the first two decades of my life, it was a shock. I felt lost, frustrated, and overwhelmed.
Of course, this was before the “selfcare” boom where, now, everything you ever need to know about skincare is right at your fingertips. When I say I tried everything, I mean everything — from medical spas and beauty counters to traditional doctor’s offices, to DIY solutions I found in my many internet deep dives — but I still wasn’t able to find a solution that actually worked. What I found either lacked a focus on my specific needs, were prohibitively expensive, or simply failed to deliver results.
What frustrated me most about the skincare industry, though, was that it made me feel like just another customer, pushed to buy products, rather than someone seeking genuine care and attention. I kept thinking to myself, “If I’m a physician and I’m having this much trouble, how hard is it for everyone else?”
Maybe it’s the physician in me but, once I see an issue, I sink my teeth in and can’t let go until I find a resolution. I felt I needed to get to the root of my issues, and skincare in general, to truly understand the global and historical aspects of the industry. I needed to know what truly worked, and most importantly, why.
What I found was surprisingly simple: the key to healthy skin was science-backed, habitual, and individually focused treatments. From this knowledge came the desire to help others what I had struggled through. I had the knowledge and the drive and aimed to create an affordable, accessible, and approachable subscription-based skincare model that actually works, which is how GLO30 was born.
I self-funded my first location while working full-time as an anesthesiologist and full-time as the first GLO30 staff member. After a decade growing and perfecting GLO30 in the D.C. metro area, franchising felt like a natural next step.
My vision for GLO30 has not only been to transform the skincare industry, but to also provide other healthcare professionals with a unique opportunity to continue their meaningful work in a new and innovative way and build generational wealth along the way. While the medical profession offered me immense fulfillment, it also came with its own set of difficulties and constraints — long hours and a limited ability for work/life balance. I wanted to use my skills and passion for helping people, but outside of a typical clinical setting.
Through franchising, we’re not just expanding a business; we’re providing opportunities for like-minded individuals to join us in our mission, leveraging their own expertise and passion to make a difference in the world of wellness.
