Inside District Of Pi Pizzeria, Now Open In Penn Quarter

By amd4dm1n
January 13, 2020

The District of Pi finally opens its doors to the public in Penn Quarter today, completing the brick-and-mortar DC expansion of St. Louis-based Pi Pizzeria. Their food truck — Pi On Wheels — has been ambling about town for months now, but permitting issues had delayed the restaurant, which initially aimed to open in time for Pi Day on March 14. Eater got a look inside the 200-seat restaurant with its brick walls, a mezzanine overlooking the atrium main level, and two bars, which you can see for yourself in the gallery above.

This spot is going to have the same deep-dish cornmeal pizza that they’ve been selling out of their truck, plus a menu that includes a variety of thin-crust pies, salads, and appetizers like wings and pizza oven mussels. The pizzeria will be serving brunch on Sundays that includes a breakfast deep-dish pizza that uses beaten eggs in the place of tomato sauce.

District of Pi is also going after the boozers among us with an impressive craft beer list featuring Schlafly brews, Troegs, Victory and, of course, DC Brau. You will note in a bar photo from the slideshow above that they also have a selection of cans — listed under “Yes We Can” on their chalkboard in reference to Barack Obama, a noted patron of the St. Louis pizzeria. A press release notes that this isn’t all you can expect out of the new pizzeria either, booze-wise. District of Pi intends to eventually open a “lower-level ‘speakeasy’ with a focus on classic cocktails.”

The pizzeria opens at 11 a.m., so approximately now. Go get ’em.
