The Halal Guys are coming to Fremont. And they’ll be serving food until midnight or 2 a.m. every night of the week.
A cult favorite in New York City for more than 25 years, the Halal Guys have been spreading their addictive white sauce on beef gyros and chicken platters far and wide as part of a U.S. and global expansion.
The new restaurant will open at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 8, in Fremont’s Pacific Commons. Grand opening festivities will include free lunch platters for the first 50 customers in line and giveaways until midnight.
Founded in 1990 as a single food cart, the Halal Guys — Egyptian immigrants Muhammed Abouelenein, Abdelbaset Elsayed and Ahmed Elsaka — quickly found a following by serving halal dishes to Manhattan’s Muslim cab drivers. Halal refers to food prepared according to Islamic law.
San Jose was the first location to open in the Bay Area, followed by San Francisco, Berkeley, San Mateo and Oakland. Fremont will be the sixth location in the region. And Sunnyvale’s Halal Guys has been under way for some time.
Details: The Fremont Halal Guys will open daily at 10 a.m. and serve until midnight Sunday through Thursday, until 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday, at 5338 Curie St. across from the Lowe’s store. www.thehalalguys.com
